Take an animal out of its natural environment and it will suffer mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Put an animal back in to its natural environment and it will heal and thrive.

This is the basis of the Wildfitness philosophy and the inspiration for our fitness holidays. Imagine a panther stealing through thick jungle, a dolphin gliding through the ocean or an eagle floating on the wind. All of these creatures have evolved to be perfectly adapted to their environments. If they were taken out of their habitats, confined indoors with limited light and space and fed unnatural foods, their health and well-being would suffer. Why do we think we are any different?

Humans spent 200,000 years as ‘hunter-gatherers’ or wild humans, adapting to life on the savannah. We were tall, strong, lean, fast, agile and fertile. We did not need modern supplements, drugs or equipment to stay fit and healthy. Nature provided everything we needed.

Unfortunately following the dawn of the industrial era many of us have become ‘Zoo Humans’ eating poor quality refined foods and living in a highly-stressed, congested and polluted ‘zoo’ environment, that is radically different to the one in which we evolved to live. The rapid change in our environment has far outstripped the evolution of our own bodies leaving us mal-adapted to our current lifestyles and as a result our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health have suffered.

At Wildfitness our goal is to transform Zoo Humans back into wild humans. We will teach you the fundamentals of natural movement, encouraging you to move and exercise as your bodies were designed to, thus achieving a ‘functional’ rather than ‘gym’ fitness. We will teach you about ‘wild eating’, ‘wild living’ and your endocrine system, explaining how the combination of the foods you eat, the lifestyles you lead and your bodies’ hormones determine your metabolism. We will help you to become lean, strong, pain-free and buzzing with raw energy and to re-discover your natural physical potential.

Of course we realise that the real challenge starts once you return home and the day-to-day stresses of modern life replace the natural rhythms and beauty of Watamu. However, unlike the quick-fix of a boot camp, our courses and our philosophy will provide you with a ‘toolbox’ of experience and knowledge that will enable you to maintain your fitness, vitality and health even back in the zoo.
