Tribe Watersports is located in Medina Palms on Watamu beach. Kitesurfing in Watamu is some of the worlds best due to a variety of conditions that the bay provides. These include large sand bars perfect for learning or for flat water freestyle and a reef that spans the length of the bay which creates epic surf for the wave riders amongst you.
Tribe is owned and managed by Ben Kelliher who was raised in Watamu and has been teaching watersports for over 12 years.
Specialising in kitesurfing, Ben is currently one of the most qualified instructors in the world. Over the last five years Ben has spent his time designing the worlds finest watersports facility and is now proud to open its doors in his childhood home Watamu. Together with his partner Ellie they have used their experience from travelling the world and seeing what works best to provide a safe and fun learning environment at Tribe Watersports for you all to enjoy.
Stand up paddle boarding in Watamu is also fantastic as the existing conditions allow for beginner progress as well as advanced wave riding. SUP in Watamu is also benefited by the large sheltered inland Mida creek which allows for excursions through the mangrove forest.
Tribe Watersports specialises in kitesurfing and stand up paddle boarding, but also provides tuition/rental in windsurfing, kayaking and body boarding. The team of staff have all been trained to the level of excellence that is required to work as a Tribe Watersports instructor. All staff hold internationally recognised qualifications from governing bodies such as the BKSA, IKO, RYA, BWSF and AWA. We also have a team of guest coaches who are renowned as some of the best athletes in their field in the world, Sam Light (Slingshot Pro Team) and Chris Burke (Wainman Hawaii). Tribe Watersports is also responsible for creating the Watamu Kitesurf Club which aims to promote and assist safe kitesurfing in Watamu.
